Signals & Monitoring
Momentum Score
A composite measure of how much observable forward motion a company is showing — shipping, hiring, funding, community traction — designed to compare trajectories, not sizes.
Definition
A momentum score aggregates a company's observable activity signals — release velocity, hiring activity, funding events, review and community traction, web presence changes — into a single comparable measure of trajectory. The point is to separate "big" from "moving": incumbents can be large and stalling while a small entrant compounds, and revenue-based rankings systematically miss that distinction because private-company revenue is invisible and lagging.
Momentum is the quantity competitive strategy actually cares about. The rival who will hurt you in eighteen months is identifiable today primarily by their rate of visible progress — which is why "who is rising" is a more actionable question than "who is biggest."
Any composite score is a methodology choice, and honest ones show their inputs: which signals feed the score, how they are weighted, and what evidence sits under each. A momentum number you cannot decompose into cited observations is an opinion wearing a decimal point.
Why it matters for competitive intelligence
Threat is a derivative, not a level — it lives in trajectory. Momentum scoring is how you rank a watchlist by who is actually moving instead of who is merely known.
How Rivalize helps
Momentum scoring is a native Rivalize concept: every company in the universe carries a momentum score computed from cited signals, with the methodology published — and the live scoreboard ranks categories by it.

Every data point links to where we found it. Prompts cannot cite sources because they do not access real-time data.
Monitoring, not one-shots
Rivalize tracks changes over time and scores momentum trends. Prompts give you a snapshot that is already stale by the time you read it.
