Signals & Monitoring
Change Detection
The automated comparison of a competitor's public surfaces over time — detecting what changed on a pricing page, homepage, changelog, or docs, and when.
Definition
Change detection is the mechanical heart of continuous monitoring: capture a competitor surface (a pricing page, a feature page, docs, a careers page), re-capture it on a schedule, and diff. What changed, when it changed, and what it said before are the three facts that most competitive questions ultimately reduce to — and the "before" state is unrecoverable unless something was watching.
The naive version — raw HTML diffs — drowns users in noise: every A/B test, cookie banner, and rotated testimonial fires an alert. Useful change detection is semantic: it distinguishes a price change from a font change, classifies what kind of change occurred, and judges whether it matters enough to surface.
The strategic value is temporal. Companies change their public surfaces before, during, and after strategic moves — repricing precedes upmarket pushes, careers pages telegraph roadmaps, quiet feature-page edits precede launches. A change archive turns a rival's website into a timeline of their strategy.
Why it matters for competitive intelligence
The most consequential competitor changes ship without announcements. If nothing is diffing their surfaces, your first notification is a lost deal or a surprised prospect.
How Rivalize helps
Rivalize runs change detection across tracked competitors' surfaces and reports semantic changes — repricings, new features, messaging shifts — as dated, cited events in your feed, not raw HTML diffs.

Competitor Monitoring
The continuous, systematic observation of competitors' public activity — pricing, product, messaging, hiring, funding — as it happens, rather than in quarterly research bursts.
Early Warning Signals
The observable precursors of competitor moves and market shifts — hiring, filings, pricing tests, vocabulary changes — watched systematically so threats surface before they land.
Signal-to-Noise Ratio
In CI, the proportion of monitored events that actually deserve attention — the metric that decides whether a monitoring system gets read or muted.
Pricing Intelligence
The systematic tracking and analysis of competitor pricing — levels, metrics, packaging, discounts, and changes over time — as an input to your own pricing and deals.

Why not just use ChatGPT?
Prompts guess. Rivalize knows.
15-25% of teams use AI prompts for competitive research. Here is why that approach falls short.
Real scraping, not hallucination
We scrape 40+ actual pages per competitor. AI prompts guess from training data that may be months or years out of date.
Source attribution on every claim
Every data point links to where we found it. Prompts cannot cite sources because they do not access real-time data.
Monitoring, not one-shots
Rivalize tracks changes over time and scores momentum trends. Prompts give you a snapshot that is already stale by the time you read it.
Real data, real sources, real intelligence.
